Here you will find some amazing tools I used in building this website. Using these tools was not only fun but also it was a learning experience for me. Initially I dabbled with free flash templates that abound the internet. But it turned out that I could not really customize the way I wanted it. So, I started searching for tools that would not only be easy to learn but also help me setup the website fast. So here they are:
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004.
This is really the one tool I used to build the website. It is the most amazing tool I've ever used. Everyday, I learnt something new and I kept experimenting. This is the result you see !! Ask any serious webmaster what tool is the most commonly used for building websites(not Frontpage !!), it is invariably some Macromedia tool or the other. Check out their website and test all their tools for free for 30 days. They even have linux versions.
Mozilla Browser & Mozilla Composer.
Mozilla is the best web browser in the world !!! Forget Microsofts's Internet Explorer(it sucks - BIG TIME). Mozilla is waaaaay ahead. It even has a built in pop-up blocker. Ever used tabbed browsing ? Basically, you can open multiple tabs instead of opening a new window. It's a very cool idea. All this cool features being developed by some of the smartest people in the world without being Monopolistic !! Check out their latest release(release 1.5 at the this time). You can even install your own themes. I'm positive you'll stop using IE and you should.
I used the browser to check my project's progress. Just to make sure everything's working right. I used the mozilla composer to clean up my html code.
This is very nice tool for generating our albums. It is very nice and easy tool and it took me just 20 minutes to organize all our photographs into albums(I am serious). Check it out.
Other Tools:
There are a whole bunch of tools out there which I played with. Like Net Objects Fusion 7.0 - a web design tool just like Dreamweaver, Flash4D - for generating flash intros like the one I have, and numerous others. Macromedia tools are very good but the cost is too much. For such cases Net objects Fusion 7.0 is very good alternative. Ofcourse for organising photo albums there is Adobe Photoshop, but it too is expensive.
One tool I must mention is Google. Without google I probably would have been still searching for tools !!!! Finally thanks to the free intro I lifted from the web. Someday, I do intend to buy Flash4D and build my own intro, but till then thanks free-flash-template.com.
.......One last thing I had to use Windoze ( I know - I suck BIG TIME!!) because I couldn't find a photo album tool for Linux. Maybe there is one. If there is one, do drop me a line, will ya ?
